Vol. 544 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

192 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Finance the amount of capital expenditure which was spent by his Department since July 1997 to 1 November 2001; the percentage of this which was spent in County Wicklow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29278/01]

There has been total gross capital expenditure by my Department of £14,324,000 – 18,187,728 – in the period from July 1997 to 1 November 2001. As my Department does not maintain gross capital expenditure data on a county by county basis it is not possible to provide a breakdown as requested by the Deputy. While the scope of the question does not extend beyond my Department, I am conscious that the Office of Public Works undertakes substantial capital expenditure throughout the country. However, in order to provide information on its gross capital expenditure on a county by county basis, it will be necessary for the Office of Public Works to gather information from sections throughout that office. Consequently, in the time available it was not possible for the Office of Public Works to assemble and check the relevant material. I will, however, arrange for the provision of this information to the Deputy at the earliest possible opportunity.
