197 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the proposal to provide symptomatic breast disease services in the North-Eastern Health Board area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29092/01]
The North-Eastern Health Board was allocated a sum of £200,000 this year for the development of symptomatic breast disease services in line with the recommendations of the report of the subgroup on the development of services for symptomatic breast disease.
The board has formulated detailed proposals for the development of services in its functional area. These proposals are under active consideration by my Department and the Department will be responding to the board shortly. I will continue to work with the board to ensure a comprehensive and coherent approach to the development of symptomatic breast disease services in the region.
