Vol. 544 No. 5

Written Answers. - Inland Waterways.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

154 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if the matter regarding the slick at Sruwaddacon, County Mayo has been investigated; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [29354/01]

I am advised that the matter was investigated by the North West Fisheries Board and the Environmental Protection Agency. I have also been advised that there does not appear to be an ongoing problem from a nature conservation viewpoint. However, officials of Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, will monitor the area to ensure that the integrity of the site, which is part of a candidate special area of conservation and of a special protection area, is maintained.
