Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - Coroner Inquest Procedures.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

330 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will make a statement on the situation where Ireland is the only country not to have a set of procedures to be followed at inquests. [31446/01]

Specific procedures are, in fact, used in coroner inquests but are not part of existing legislation. Proposals arising from the recommendations of the working group on the review of the coroner service envisage that detailed coroners' rules be incorporated into new coroner legislation, the preparation of which has already been approved by the Government. Work on the development of the new rules has already commenced.
