Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rail Services.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

205 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the situation in relation to the proposals to provide suburban commuter rail services to Lucan as part of the upgrading of the Kildare line in view of a recent media article; if the new station referred to in the article as Adamstown, County Kildare, is the old Lucan south station; if the terms of the proposed PPP are with developers within the Adamstown strategic development zone; and the level of contribution which will be expected from the private sector towards the construction of the new station (details supplied). [1727/02]

The Dublin Transportation Office's strategy, A Platform for Change, proposes the upgrading of suburban rail services throughout the greater Dublin area, including the Dublin-Kildare line.

Iarnród Éireann are currently finalising plans for the development of commuter services on the Dublin-Kildare line. The project will involve track and signalling upgrading and the provision of new stations along the line and Iarnród Éireann hope to make an announcement in that regard over the coming months.

The precise arrangements for the location of stations along the route is the direct responsibility of Iarnród Éireann, including the negotiation of any financial contributions by developers towards the provision of station facilities.
