248 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Defence the amount which was spent in his Department from June 1997 to December 2001 for media purposes and or advertising; the way in which the money was spent (details supplied); the amount spent on a year to year basis; and the money which was spent on videos. [2024/02]

The information sought by the Deputy is as follows: 1997: an amount of 101,623, £80,035, including national papers – 86,582, £68,189; provincial papers – 6,740, £5,308; national radio – 2,265, £1,784. 1998: an amount of 181,580, £143,006, including national papers – 120,700, £95,059; provincial papers – 19,309, £15,207; national radio – 715, £563; local radio – 4,758, £3,747; video – 2,151, £1,694, in relation to recruitment to the Defence Forces; 1999: an amount of 237,910, £187,369, including national papers – 154,877, £121,976; provincial papers – 23,109, £18,200; national radio – 6,787, £5,345; local radio – 17,060, £13,436; 2000 an amount of 449,313, £353,863, including national papers – 245,985, £193,729; provincial papers – 61,686, £48,582; national radio – 37,955, £29,892; local radio – 42,950, £33,826; and 2001: an amount of 1,763,527, £1,388,890, including national papers – 283,973, £223,647; provincial papers – 56,253, £44,303; national radio – 27,640, £21,768; local radio – 33,397, £26,302; and 1,298,942, £1,023,000, in respect of the Defence Forces cross-media recruitment campaign.

249 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Defence if in the past three months he has decided to move aspects of the public capital programme expenditure of his Department into a public private partnership provision; if so his plans in this regard; the reasons for the decision; and the implications of this decision for the categorisation of the expenditure in question under the Stability and Growth Pact of Ireland for participation in the European single currency. I have made no decision of the kind referred to in the Deputy's question in relation to my Department's capital expenditure programme.
