364 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the amount of grants made in supports to farmers for sheep and lambs in the years 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. [2696/02]
The amounts paid to sheep farmers under ewe premium and sheep headage schemes for the scheme years in question are shown in the table below. It should be noted that the final instalment under the 2001 ewe premium scheme has not been paid because the EU regulation setting the rate of premium has not yet been published. It should be noted also that all five headage schemes, including sheep headage, have been replaced in 2001 by one new area based compensatory allowance scheme in disadvantaged areas.*
