Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

425 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance the amount which was spent in his Department from June 1997 to December 2001 for media purposes and advertising; the way in which the money was spent (details supplied); the amount spent on a year to year basis; and the money which was spent on videos. [2031/02]

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the spending incurred by my Department's press office and the question is answered on that basis. The Department's press office is a media and public information service. Therefore, it is not possible to categorically separate all of the spending for media purposes as many items of expenditure relate to the provision of information and publications to both the media and the general public.

Spending for media and public information purposes from June 1997 to December 2001 consisted of the following:

Year

Subhead A3 outturn

2001

64,974

2000

56,256

1999

48,777

1998

31,199

1997 (from June)

14,560
