Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

438 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works has received reports from Kildare County Council in relation to flood alleviation works required in Celbridge, Straffan, Clane and Leixlip, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2412/02]

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

439 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works has met with Kildare County Council in relation to flood alleviation works required in Maynooth, County Kildare and the Kill-Johnstown area; if so, the outcome of the meeting; if he will provide funding for the required works; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2413/02]

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

456 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the discussions which have taken place between his Department and the various local authorities in County Kildare with a view to preventing a reoccurrence of the flooding which took place in November 2000 in the towns of Maynooth, Leixlip, Celbridge, Straffan, Clane, Naas and Kilcock in County Kildare; if he has set aside funding or made recommendations to undertake likely remedial works; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2890/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 438, 439 and 456 together.

Reports have been received to date from Kildare County Council on the Lyreen and Meadowbrook rivers in the Maynooth area as well as a report on the Morrell river in the Kill-Johnstown area. Officials from the Office of Public Works will be meeting with officials from Kildare County Council early in February 2002 in order to discuss the requirement for additional data and studies. Until such time as these discussions have taken place, it is not possible to determine what flood alleviation works might be considered viable and, consequently, the question of funding cannot be addressed at this time.
