Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

447 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Finance the refund of excise duty on petrol due to persons (details supplied) contracted for the school bus service; and when this payment will be made. [2651/02]

I presume the Deputy is referring to claims for the refund of excise duty on diesel used in the provision of school bus services prior to 1 January 1997. Section 94(3)(b) of the Finance Act, 2000, provided a basis for refunds backdated to 1 January 1997 or an earlier date if so prescribed by the Revenue Commissioners. I understand that the Revenue Commissioners will shortly be making an order nominating an earlier date for the purpose of further retrospective refunds. Once this order has been made, all eligible persons may submit claims to their local excise officer for refunds of the mineral oil tax involved. I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that all claims covered by the current period are being processed without undue delay.

Questions Nos. 448 and 449 answered with Question No. 440.
