Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Vaccination Programme.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

494 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children further to Parliamentary Question No. 254 of 4 December 2001, the exact date on which the additional questions in the Adjournment Debate were furnished to the company. [1243/02]

As I stated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 254 of 4 December 2001, and on the Adjournment Debate on 9 October, the company has come to the conclusion that, on the basis of available evidence, the discrepancies in the hand- written vaccination records which have been discovered are due to transcription errors. In relation to the three further discrepancies referred to in the Adjournment Debate, the company has advised that it has checked a second group of hand-written adverse event lists for the period in question and has discovered three discrepancies relating to batch numbers cited on the hand-written table as follows. Two batch numbers are cited which correspond to distilled water vials. A further batch number listed corresponds to Black Leg vaccine. In all three cases, a single digit transcription error would give a number corresponding to a Trivax batch number in use in the EHB region at that time.

My Department officials wrote to the company on 30 October 2001 asking it to keep the Department informed should any further details come to light in this matter, and in the event of the company so doing, I will advise the Deputy of same at the earliest opportunity.
