496 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of allegations made to him during his period of office that children taken into care in institutions for which he or any health board in the State has responsibility, have been sexually or physically abused whilst in such institutions; the institutions in respect of which such allegations have been made; and the steps taken by him to have such allegations investigated. My Department has overall strategic responsibility for the NDP so as to develop the health service infrastructure in a co-ordinated and effective manner. However, the prioritisation and delivery of individual capital projects at local level is primarily a matter for the health boards.
Accordingly, my Department has written to the regional chief executive of the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the chief executive officer of each of the seven regional health boards and asked them to reply directly to the Deputy.
