Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - International Conference Centre.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

60 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received a response from Bord Fáilte to the consultants' report, Maximising Ireland's Potential in the International Conference Market; when it is expected that a decision will be made on a proposed conference centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2535/02]

David Stanton

Ceist:

1074 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the action he proposes to take regarding the PricewaterhouseCoopers report commissioned by Bord Fáilte entitled, Maximising Ireland's Potential in the Inter national Conference Market; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2875/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 60 and 1074 together.

As I have already stated in my reply to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 90 and 226 on Wednesday, 14 November 2001, I have received Bord Fáilte Éireann's formal response to the consultants' report. I have also asked relevant Departments for their considered views on the report's findings before reaching any conclusions myself in the context of future policy in relation to the development of international conference business in Ireland.

The Deputies should note that the report was specifically commissioned to facilitate consideration of the broad issue of optimising Ireland's share of the international conference market, of which physical conference infrastructure is but one component.
