Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Community Care.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

521 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 191 of 24 October 2001, the amount of funding provided for the renewal of the Quarry Road health centre, Cabra, Dublin 7; the extent of the work; and the timescale involved. [1418/02]

The provision of health centres to meet the needs of local communities and the maintenance and upgrading of such centres within its functional area is a matter for the relevant health board or the Eastern Regional Health Authority. In the case of the Cabra area of Dublin, this responsibility rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority.

I am advised by the authority that the proposed refurbishment programme for this health centre will be extensive and is subject to planning permission. The refurbished health centre will contain a reception area, waiting area, four clinics, five offices, community welfare office, a meeting room, storeroom, public toilets, staff toilets/shower and staff tea room. The plans for the refurbishment have been finalised and application for planning permission is imminent. Planning permission will take three months and the construction time is estimated at six months. The Eastern Regional Health Authority envisages that the refurbished health centre will be open for business before the end of 2002. The sum of 635,000 has been earmarked for this project.

Question No. 522 answered with Question No. 502.
