Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

607 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of smear clinics held in Belmullet, County Mayo for the past three years; the number of smear clinics scheduled throughout County Mayo annually; the details of their locations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2109/02]

I am advised that 11 smear clinics have been held in Belmullet in the past three years and that there are 56 clinics scheduled annually throughout County Mayo in the following health centres: Achill, Ballina, Ballycroy, Ballyhaunis, Belmullet, Castlebar, Claremorris, Crossmolina, Foxford, Kilkelly, Killala, Louisburgh, Westport and Áras Attracta, Swinford. Furthermore, general practitioners provide smear-taking services at their surgeries. The directors of public health nursing have indicated that they are currently in the process of recruiting personnel to enhance the service already provided.
