Ceist:

643 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of radiographers employed in the Eastern Regional Health Authority area over the past seven to eight years; the movement in waiting times for a routine x-ray over that period; his views on the definition of an acceptable delay; the details of delays for the various Dublin hospitals; his further views on whether a 16 week delay for a simple x-ray is acceptable; the penalty being considered against inefficient hospitals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The information requested by the Deputy in relation to the number of radiographers employed in the Eastern Regional Health Authority area over the past seven to eight years is outlined in the table following.

Responsibility for the provision of radiography services at acute hospitals in the eastern region rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has, therefore, asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the matter raised and respond directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
