Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Child Care Workers.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

669 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason new pay scales for child care workers and leaders are not operational; the further reason personnel are informed by health boards that the health boards do not know when the new pay regime will be established; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2607/02]

My Department requested that these new pay scales be put in place by all health boards on 27 September 2001. Responsibility for the payment of the increase rests with the health boards. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officers to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and a reply will issue to the Deputy from the Department as soon as possible.

Ceist:

670 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the number and percentage of child care workers who were employed in a temporary capacity the last time such a count was made; the date this count was made; if he will investigate and report on the number and percentage of childcare workers who are employed on a temporary basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2608/02]

Responsibility for the provision of this information rests with the health boards. My Department has, therefore, asked the health services employers agency to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to her directly.
