Ceist:

702 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of community hospital beds for older people; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2861/02]

The number of public beds for the care of older people, as at March 2000, has been supplied by the health boards and the Eastern Regional Health Authority and is set out in the following table.

The figures include beds available for assessment-rehabilitation, respite care, extended care, treatment of the elderly mentally infirm, convalescent care and welfare beds. They are located in over 100 sites around the country, which have various titles, for example, geriatric home-hospital, district hospital, community hospital and welfare home.
