Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

745 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the average waiting time for driving tests at each testing centre; and the number of persons waiting for tests at the latest date for which figures are available. [1616/02]

The average waiting times for driving tests at each test centre, as at 28 January 2002, are set out in the following table. The average waiting time nationally is now 14 weeks. Eleven additional contract testers have been appointed recently and were assigned to the test centres with the longest waiting times. Some 49,215 persons are now on the waiting list for a driving test. Of these, some 23,423 have been given test appointments; some 11,859 have indicated that they are not currently available to be tested; and 13,933 are awaiting a test appointment.
