Ceist:

761 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount paid in legal fees by his Department in 1999, 2000 and 2001; the person or organisations who received a payment; and the amount of payment in each case. [1839/02]

The information requested is set out in the following table. In addition, certain consultancy arrangements will have involved indirect, but not separate, payments by my Department for legal advice provided incidentally within a main consultancy contract.

Payments for legal services are also made by my Department, on behalf of the Tribunal of Inquiry into Certain Planning Matters and Payments. Such payments totalled £1,964,838.54, 2,494,830.30, in 1999, £2,619,600.32, 3,326,206.28, in 2000 and £2,765,744.61, 3,511,771.24, in 2001.

Item No. 1 is the Department's share of the cost of legal services/advice to the Forum for the Construction Industry.
Item No. 2 is the cost of legal advice provided in relation to Public Private Partnerships.
