Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Spending.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

100 Mr. O'Shea asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the capital projects financed by her Department in each constituency which commenced or were completed in 2001; the amount of money in each case; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1293/02]

Funding for capital projects is provided by the various develop ment agencies which report to my Department. Deputy O'Shea may wish to address his question to the boards of these development agencies which have responsibility for allocating funding for expenditure on capital projects throughout the country.

In 2001 the Oireachtas provided £365,000 under subhead X06 of my Department's Vote for Quarryvale Community House and Resource Centre. The funding was agreed by Government as part of a social inclusion package in budget 2001. The breakdown of the funding was as follows: £250,000 was provided to the An Síol Millennium Holiday Trust Limited. This project was initiated and jointly established by two community development groups, An Síol, North West Inner City, and the Quarryvale Community House Project, Clondalkin. The purpose of this funding was to purchase a holiday facility for disadvantaged individuals and families at Westerly, Rosslare Strand, Rosslare, County Wexford. The money was paid via ADM and Clondalkin Partnership Limited.

Some £115,000 was provided for Quarryvale Resource Centre Limited at Quarryvale Shopping Centre, Shancastle Avenue, North Clondalkin. The project was led by South Dublin County Council which owns the buildings in which the resource centre is housed. Other partners include the Tallaght and Clondalkin Partnerships, the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, the South-Western Area Health Board, Action Clondalkin Enterprise, the local shopkeepers and community. The project involved the provision of an IT training facility and two community businesses, one involved in estate environmental enhancement works and the other involved in an outreach community health initiative. The money was paid by this Department to South Dublin County Council which administered the fund.
