Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Certificates.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

942 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his response to the request by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 for permission to visit his invalid mother and then return here. [1550/02]

The person in question has been granted refugee status. He has been issued with a travel document in accordance with section 4 of the Refugee Act, 1996, and Article 28 of the 1951 convention relating to the status of refugees. Consequently, the question of granting permission to travel from, and return to, the State does not arise.

An application for a certificate of naturalisation from the person concerned was received in my Department on 19 January 2001, one of 1,427 applications received during 2001. If the person's application is successful he will, of course, be entitled to an Irish passport. I understand that processing of applications received during 2001 is currently under way and that the application of the person referred to will be among the first batch to be completed. As soon as full consideration has been given to this case, I will advise both the applicant and the Deputy of my decision.

Question No. 943 answered with Question No. 935.
