Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Tom Hayes

Ceist:

979 Mr. T. Hayes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his position on the future of rural Garda stations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1976/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources to individual areas, that the allocation of personnel to, and opening hours of, rural Garda stations is continually monitored and reviewed, together with overall policing arrangements and operational strategy in order to ensure that the optimum use is made of Garda resources and the best possible Garda service is provided to the general public.

I should add that the Garda authorities are at present conducting a review of the rural policing scheme. The review is being conducted as part of the strategic management initiative process within An Garda Síochána.
