Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Crime Prevention.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

980 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will raise with the Garda Commissioner concerns about a spate of muggings in an area (details supplied); if steps are being taken to deal with this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1978/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that a number of larcenies from the person have taken place recently within the area referred to by the Deputy. In addition, a number of burglaries, robberies and other larcenies have also occurred in adjacent areas.

I am further informed that a high percentage of these crimes have been solved and a number of persons are before the courts as a result. I understand that investigations are continuing in relation to outstanding crimes not solved to date.

I am aware that gardaí from Kilmainham station are constantly patrolling the Inchicore area and that this work is augmented by the detective unit, drugs unit, divisional crime task force, special resource unit and the community policing unit.

I am assured by the Garda authorities that sufficient resources are available at Kilmainham station to deal with the current crime situation in this area.
