1087 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received proposals either from local community interests or through the local authorities for the provision of a swimming pool in Leixlip, County Kildare; if he will offer financial assistance from the proceeds of the national lottery or other sources towards such a project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Funding for the provision of swimming pools is funded through the local authority swimming pool programme administered by my Department. While I understand that Leixlip Town Council is considering the possibility of providing a swimming pool in Leixlip and that it has commissioned a feasibility study, my Department has not received a grant application for such a proposal. In any event, the closing date for receipt of applications under the programme was 31 July 2000.
