Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Seán Power

Ceist:

1100 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education and Science when the building project at Robertstown National School, Naas, County Kildare will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1090/02]

Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is 153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving the accommodation situation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997. Because of the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major and minor building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.
Robertstown National School is being refurbished as part of the Government's programme and is currently in architectural planning. The project will continue to the invitation to tenders, as soon as it is possible to do so, under the expanded building programme.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

1101 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 365 of 11 December 2001, he will outline the progress which has been made in respect of the proposed project at Feras National School; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1091/02]

I understand that the school referred to by the Deputy is Fews National School, County Waterford. The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is 153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving the accommodation situation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997. Because of the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major and minor building projects in construction and in architectural planning. This has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity. A proposed building project for Fews National School will proceed to architectural planning and to the preparation of tender documents, as soon as it is possible to do so, under the expanded building programme.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

1102 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an application for refurbishment from Scoil Eoin Baiste, Falima, Dún Dealgan, County Louth; if so, when sanction will be given; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1092/02]
