Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

1137 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science when the provision of permanent facilities at Coláiste Cois Life, County Dublin will be finalised; when work is likely to start on the project; if his attention has been drawn to the need to proceed with the project as a matter of urgency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1352/02]

The stage 3 submission, developed sketch scheme, for the provision of a new school for Coláiste Cois Life has been received in the building unit of my Department. The building unit's technical staff are currently examining the submission.

Decisions relating to the rate of progress to construction of individual projects, including Coláiste Cois Life, will be taken as in previous years in the light of the increased allocation for post-primary school buildings.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

1138 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress regarding the provision of the extra facilities identified as being required at Scoil Linbh Íosa, Prosperous, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1353/02]

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is 153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving the accommodation situation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.

Due to the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major and minor building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

Scoil an Linbh Íosa is being refurbished as part of the Government's programme and is currently in architectural planning. The project will continue to the preparation of tender documents and the invitation to tenders, as soon as it is possible to do so, under the expanded building programme.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

1139 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress being made on the proposed extension and refurbishment of Ballymana national school, Craughwell, County Galway; if his attention has been drawn to the problems which exist in this school (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1380/02]
