Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

1193 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a psychological report and a speech and language report in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath; if a remedial teacher will be appointed to help deal with the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1655/02]

On 15 January 2002, my Department's inspectorate received an application for support in respect of the child in question. The application was accompanied only by a psychological assessment report.

Following consideration of the information provided, it was considered that the needs of the child could best be addressed by an allocation of resource teacher support. On 21 January 2002, my Department sanctioned 2.5 hours resource teaching support per week to cater for the child's needs. The school authorities have been notified of this allocation.

Question No. 1194 answered with Question No. 1127.
