Vol. 547 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fire Stations.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

273 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if an application has been made for a new fire station for Westport, County Mayo; the number of applications for new fire stations which have been lodged with the Department; the stage the Westport application is at; if there is a priority list for these works; and if so, the position of Westport on the priority list. [3298/02]

Mayo County Council recently submitted an application for approval in principle to the purchase of a specific site and the development of a new fire station at Westport. This proposal will be examined by my Department and a decision will issue to the council as soon as possible.

Formal plans have been received in my Department for 36 new fire stations. These are at various stages of consideration within the fire services programme.
