Vol. 547 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

274 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if an application for additional funding has been submitted in respect of the Westport sewerage scheme to allow for extensions to the scheme; and if he will consider an application for additional funding to complete the scheme. [3299/02]

I approved Mayo County Council's proposals for additional works and extensions to the Westport sewerage scheme last month at an estimated cost of €313,666.

Question No. 275 answered with Question No. 263.

Seamus Healy

Ceist:

276 Mr. Healy asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he plans to approve the Fethard regional water supply scheme, stage 2, details of which have been submitted by South Tipperary County Council. [3553/02]

I have approved the Fethard water supply scheme, stage 2, for funding under the rural towns and villages initiative in the water services investment programme 2000-02, which I announced in July 2000. My Department is currently awaiting the submission of a preliminary report by South Tipperary County Council.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

277 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his plans to extend the sewerage scheme at Dromcollogher, County Limerick. [3554/02]

A brief for the appointment of consultants to prepare a preliminary report for a sewerage scheme at Dromcollogher was received by my Department from Limerick County Council in 1998 but has not been approved.

The scheme was 16th in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by the Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme 2000-02, announced in July 2000. Given the priority rating afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme.
