Vol. 547 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

341 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will give a progress report on the implementation of the decision to give Garda divisional status to Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3682/02]

As the Deputy is aware, it is proposed to transfer the divisional headquarters of the Garda DMA south division to Tallaght Garda station. In the course of my reply to a matter raised by the Deputy on the Adjournment on 6 November 2001, I said that in order to achieve this transfer it will be necessary to provide substantial additional accommodation to meet the requirements of a divisional headquarters at Tallaght. I am anxious that the transfer of Garda divisional functions to Tallaght happens as quickly as possible. I am satisfied that my Department, in conjunction with the other parties involved – in particular the Garda authorities and the Office of Public Works – is making every effort to ensure that the necessary new works will be carried out with the minimum of delay. The current position is that plans to carry out the necessary works to the station are at an advanced stage. A sketch scheme is currently being revised by the Office of Public Works to take account of the requirements of the Garda authorities.
