Vol. 547 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Pat Carey

Ceist:

417 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if an application by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 for one to one tuition has been received by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3566/02]

My Department allocates resource posts, special needs assistant posts and concessionary teaching hours to second level schools and vocational education committees to cater for the needs of special needs pupils. Applications for such support are made to my Department by the relevant school authorities. Each case is considered on its merits and determined on the advice of the psychological service. My Department has recently received an application for a special needs assistant to cater for the special educational needs of the pupil in question. The application has been referred to the psychological service for a report and, as soon as the report has been received and considered, my Department will notify the school authorities of the decision.
