Vol. 547 No. 3

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

423 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will arrange for an assess ment of pupils (details supplied) in County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3574/02]

The school attended by these pupils is assigned to a NEPS psychologist. The school authorities had not indicated to the NEPS psychologist that these pupils needed to be assessed. I have been advised by NEPS that one of the named pupils has been assessed by a health board psychologist and that my Department has allocated extra resources to him. The second pupil is awaiting assessment under the scheme where my Department provides funding to schools for assessments carried out by private psychologists. I understand that this assessment should take place shortly. I have requested the NEPS psychologist to discuss the third pupil's needs with the school principal as soon as possible.
