144 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the progress of the local employment service in placing long-term unemployed persons; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3680/02]

In 2001 almost 8,000 clients benefited from the local employment service. Over 35% of these clients were placed in a job or training programme in 2001. Approximately 60% remain active on the LES caseload. Over 7,000 of the overall caseload were those considered most distanced from the labour market, including long-term unemployed, dependent spouses of long-term unemployed – qualified adults, lone parents, early school leavers, persons with a disability, ex-prisoners, homeless people, Travellers, ethnic minorities, and persons referred from substance abuse rehabilitative programmes.
