Ceist:

137 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science his plans to appoint a home-school liaison officer to St. Mary's community college, Blessington, County Wicklow and Hacketstown secondary school, County Carlow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3967/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 136 and 137 together.

All second level schools that are designated as disadvantaged have been invited to participate in the home-school community liaison scheme and have been allocated additional teaching resources to facilitate their participation. The second level schools in County Wicklow which have been designated as disadvantaged are De La Salle College, St. Mantan's Road, Wicklow; St. Killian's community school, Ballywaltrin, Bray; Arklow community college, Coolgreaney Road, Arklow; St. Thomas' community college, Novara Avenue, Bray; and Avondale community college, Rathdrum, County Wicklow and Abbey Community College, Wicklow.

Neither of the schools referred to in the question are designated as disadvantaged. There are no plans at present in my Department to designate further second level schools as disadvantaged. However, I assure the Deputy that the needs of the schools in question will be considered in the context of any future review of the disadvantaged and home-school-community liaison schemes at second level.
