Vol. 548 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

139 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that details of hardship in relation to persons (details supplied) seeking the maximum rate of transport allowance were submitted to his Department on 25 October 2001 as requested and that to date the reduced grant has not been increased. [4025/02]

A medical grant may be paid to assist parents to make private transport arrangements for a child where such is appropriate. The rate of grant payable is generally determined by the distance from home to school. My Department considers that the standard rate of grant aid is the most that can be offered in this case.
