Vol. 548 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

151 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will allow a school (details supplied) in County Monaghan to retain a teacher in year 2002-03; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4076/02]

The staffing of primary schools is determined by reference to the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous school year. This is in accordance with guidelines agreed between my Department and the education partners.

The enrolment at the school in question was 60 pupils on 30 September 2000 which warrants the staffing of a principal and two mainstream class teachers for the current school year. According to data submitted to my Department by the board of management, the enrolment on 30 September 2001 was 50 pupils. The staffing schedule for the 2002-03 school year has not yet been determined.

The board of management of the school will be advised of the staffing position for the 2002-03 school year by circular letter in the near future.
