Vol. 548 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Legislation.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

24 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the full extent of breaches of EU treaties, protocols, directives or regulations in each of the member states; if action is ongoing or contemplated to address such issues; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3940/02]

I am not in a position to provide detailed information on infringements of EU treaties, directives or regulations in other member states of the European Union. Detailed information of this kind should be available from the European Commission, which publishes from time to time comparative information relating to the implementation of EU law. I understand that information specifically on infringements relating to the Internal Market is available on the Commission's website, the details of which are: www.europa.eu.int/comm.

For more detail on infringement procedures concerning Ireland, I refer the Deputy to the answer which I gave to Parliamentary Question No. 198 on 20 November last, which lists all the infringement proceedings initiated with regard to Ireland since 1 November 1997. Responding to infringement proceedings is the responsibility of the Department that has substantive responsibility for the subject matter in question.
