Vol. 548 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John Perry

Ceist:

57 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 53 of 6 June 2000, his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Sligo has not received a premium under the western package tree planting grant scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3972/02]

The person in question qualified for a grant under the western package scheme, which terminated in 1989, but did not qualify for a forestry premium as his off-farm income exceeded the threshold then prevailing.

The Deputy will be aware that I recently announced increases, to take effect from 2001, for those who planted between 1993 and 1999 under the CAP afforestation programme and for those who planted between 1989 and 1993 under the forestry operational programme. Payment in respect of 2001, funded by the Exchequer, was made before Christmas.

Having resolved the position with regard to those who planted under the 1989-99 schemes, I have asked my officials to look at apparent anomalies in a small number of western package cases, such as that of the person in question.
