Vol. 548 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Monica Barnes

Ceist:

178 Mrs. Barnes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when approval will be given to the revised application for phase two of the drainage scheme sent by the project engineer on behalf of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5038/02]

Preliminary proposals for this scheme were submitted to my Department by the local authority in February 1991 but have not been approved. The scheme was included as a 2004-05 objective in the list of sewerage schemes submitted by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme for 2000-02, announced in July 2000. Given the priority rating afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme. A revised proposal has recently been submitted to my Department by the council. This will be considered in the context of the next phase of the water service investment programme in light of the prevailing priorities identified by the council at that time.
