Ceist:35 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Defence the progress made to date regarding the implementation of improvements to the runaway at Baldonnel Aerodrome; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4678/02]

Following receipt of a consultant's report, a civil engineering consultancy firm was appointed to prepare detailed specification and tender documentation to upgrade the runways and taxiways plus some work to the lighting and drainage systems. It is hoped that the draft tender documents will be ready at the end of February, with a target contract date of the end of May, and target finish date of the end of October 2002. In the meantime, a contract was placed on 29 January 2002 to have interim remedial works carried out on the runways. These works are now complete.
