Vol. 548 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

75 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the level of occupation and usage of St. Bricín's hospital; the total number of beds, outpatients departments and so on; the square footage of St. Bricín's; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4109/02]

St. Bricín's Military Hospital currently provides inpatient accommodation for up to 53 inpatients, a full pharmacy service and a wide range of outpatient services for members of the Defence Forces. Outpatient services provided include primary care services, post hospital reviews, ENT, ophthalmology, psychiatry, physiotherapy, radiology, pathology and dental services, including periodontal treatment. The hospital is not equipped, and would not have the staffing resources, to provide additional more sophisticated services, other than those provided at present.

There are 53 beds available for immediate use and a further 27 in a reserve ward. The office of the director of Army Medical Corps, storage of Army medical records, base medical stores, the Army pensions board and the Defence Forces printing press are also located in the St. Bricín's Military Hospital complex. The floor area of the hospital and the adjacent laboratory is approximately 5335 square meters.
