Vol. 548 No. 3

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

149 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding the report of the inter-departmental committee he established to examine vehicle registration tax on cars for people with disabilities; when the report will be published; the names of the individuals who are serving on the committee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4840/02]

For the Deputy's information, the interdepartmental review group examining the disabled drivers' and disabled passengers' scheme was actually set up by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform and is chaired by an official from that Department. I understand that the work of the group is at an advanced stage. The report will be published once the deliberative process is fully completed.

The review group comprises representatives from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, the Department of Health and Children, the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs, the Revenue Commissioners and the Department of Finance.

The officials from my Department who have been on the review group up to the end of 2001 are as follows: Mr. R. Bradshaw, Ms J. Daly/Ms S. Errity*. Mr. Bradshaw has since been replaced by Mr. F. Cooper. The Revenue officials for the same period are as follows: Mr. S. Ó Séaghda/Mr. Niall Butler*, Ms. J. Kennedy/Mr. P. Barrett* and Mr. D. Godwin/Mr. J. Pierce* – * denotes change in membership over the lifetime of the group.
