53 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the progress to date in the implementation of the national development plan programme for farm waste management; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4269/02]
Some 2,936 applications have been received to date in my Department under the scheme of investment aid for farm waste management. In relation to these applications, 1,544 approvals to commence investment works have issued to farmers and 543 applications have been rejected or returned to farmers/planners for further information. The remaining applications are currently been processed in the local offices of my Department. A total of 112 payments amounting to €0.419 million have issued since the start of the scheme in February 2001.
