Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

137 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her plans for the northside Luas; if a timetable for commencement of this project has been finalised; the implications for this project of the recent announcement of the building of the Metro; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8294/02]

Proposals for the development of Luas lines on the northside are contained in the Dublin transportation office's, DTO, strategy A Platform for Change. The details of the exact routes for these lines will be dependent on the alignment of the metro line from the airport and Blanchardstown into the city centre.

The Railway Procurement Agency is progressing the proposals for the development of the metro and will shortly be advertising for expressions of interest in line with the recent Government decision. The RPA is also tasked with implementing the light rail elements of the DTO's strategy. While initial planning and preliminary public consultation work on the northside Luas lines has been undertaken, an implementation strategy will only be determined by the RPA after the metro alignments have been decided on.
