Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

246 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children the status of his review of the health concerns of people living in Croagh, Cappagh and Askeaton, County Limerick following the presentations in November 2001 of an audit carried out of all cancer cases in a four and a half mile zone in Cappagh and Croagh, County Limerick. [7550/02]

Consideration of the commissioning of an independent health specialist to review the most up-to-date statistics available on the incidence of cancer in the areas referred to is not yet completed. The issue is complex and officials from my Department will be consulting further with appropriate agencies including the National Cancer Registry with regard to the most appropriate protocol that might be adopted in re-examining the allegedly high cancer levels in those areas.
