Written Answers. - Departmental Libraries.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

54 Mr. Haughey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her Department has a library or if another library comes under the aegis of her Department; the way in which staff are recruited to such libraries; if there are vacancies at present; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7636/02]

My Department operates a small internal library service that is staffed by civil servants recruited in the normal way via the Civil Service Commission. Efforts by my Department during 2001 to recruit a professional librarian, by way of open competitive interview, were unsuccessful. The provision of an expanded internal library service without a librarian is being considered in the context of a review which should be concluded this year.

In addition, the Patents Office in Kilkenny operates a library and information centre providing information on intellectual property. This service is also staffed by civil servants and there are no vacancies at present.
