Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

342 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will address the concerns of the Knockboy Guild ICA, Waterford regarding the provision of a radiotherapy unit at Waterford Regional Hospital (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8459/02]

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

400 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on recent statements made by a person (details supplied) that the expansion of radiotherapy treatment units beyond Dublin, Cork and Galway will not be feasible in the near future in view of the resource implications involved. [8875/02]

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

405 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will establish a radiotherapy unit in the south east region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8913/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 342, 400 and 405 together.

As the Deputies are aware, I established an expert working group on radiotherapy services to examine the appropriate further development of radiotherapy services in this country. The provision of additional services for radiotherapy treatment will be considered in the context of the report of the expert working group. The work of the group is at an advanced stage. I have been advised that all health boards, including the South Eastern Health Board, have been afforded the opportunity to meet with the group. Because of the importance and the complexity of the work, it is not possible to give an exact date for the group's report but it is expected that their work will be completed in the near future.
