Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Protestant Adoption Society.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

427 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the outstanding work of the Protestant Adoption Society over the past 50 years; and if in this, the golden anniversary year of the society, additional funds will be made available to the society to enable it to implement the recommendations of its recent management consultancy report. [9100/02]

I am aware of the valuable work that PACT have been doing in the area of adoption over the years. Under the Child Care Act, 1991, each health board has responsibility for the provision of an adoption service in its area. In this case the Eastern Regional Health Authority has responsibility. This Department does not directly fund agencies providing services and a request for funding for PACT has not been received by my Department.
