Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

467 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will approve the funding for stage I and II of the Castlerea sewerage scheme, County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8682/02]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 186 of 20 February 2002.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

468 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will approve funding for the Ballyleague sewerage scheme, County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8683/02]

A draft brief for the appointment of consultants to prepare a combined preliminary report for this and a number of other schemes was submitted to my Department by Roscommon County Council in August 2001 but has not been approved.

The scheme was included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Roscommon County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The assessments were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002. Because of the level of competing demand, the limited funding available, and the need to prioritise individual proposals on a national basis it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme.

Ceist:

469 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will approve funding for the Kileglan Springs in County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8684/02]

A revised brief for the appointment of consultants to review the preliminary report for the south Roscommon regional water supply scheme, which incorporates this proposal, was received in my Department last month but has not been approved.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

470 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make funding available for stage II of the Bandon sewerage scheme in respect of which the preliminary report was submitted in 1997, in view of the fact that development proposals in the town are now being delayed or deferred. [8706/02]

A preliminary report for Bandon sewerage scheme was submit ted to my Department in 1993 but has not been approved. This scheme was included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Cork County Council, in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002. Given the level of competing demand and the limited funding available, it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme.
